The Wiretap Act prohibits intentionally intercepting wire, oral, or electric communications. This Act is found under 18 USC Section 2511(1). This law also applies to intercepting communications between spouses.

This act does not cover stored communications. The Store Communication Act, 18 USC Section 2710(a) covers the accessing of records and store communications.
