Jury selection in Florida is a complex process. During jury selection, either party may challenge the selection of the other party and try to get the juror disqualified “for cause.” Some of the general reasons for getting a juror removed are:
· Lack of legal qualifications such as a juror being convicted of perjury, larceny, forgery, bribery or other felonies;
· Mental or physical handicaps that are excessive
· Personal beliefs that would prevent a juror from applying the law to the facts of the case;
· Participation in the grand jury that indicted the accused;
· Participation on petit jury that previously tried the accused for the same violation;
· Participation on a jury for the same offense committed by a different person;
· Participation on a civil jury in which the accused was tried for the same offense;
· Being sued or accused of a crime by the accused;
· Related to the defendant attorney, victim, or complaining witness within a third degree;
· Prejudice to the point he cannot deliver an impartial verdict;
· Will be a witness to the case;
· Will be a surety on the bond of the defendant
